May 11, 2022
Dear Alumni,
Your Board of Directors got together April 28 – May 1, 2022, at the Kemper Museum and had a very productive work weekend. The Museum has seen a lot of visitors since the grand opening, and it was time to address some items that had been held over from last fall as well as general maintenance.
To begin with, all the class pictures that were needing to be repaired are over at the frame shop except the final two that will need white glove repair. That said, we feel good about our ability to get them completed but it will take some extra time. All the railing that supports the cables that display the class pictures and standard of honors has been reinforced and all items on display are safe. The plumbing in the kitchen sink was completed around Christmas time and the HVAC unit was completed and installed on the third floor which has regulated the climate throughout the museum. The third floor was the focus of the weekend as archives were organized and consolidated down and the room is now set up properly for items coming and going. You might recall from the grand opening, the third floor had become a catch all and needed some organization. Further, a long list of items has been created and will go up on the Amazon KMS registry where everyone can go to help get involved.
There were lots of laughs, food and fun as we cooked burgers, chickens and brats on Saturday afternoon while playing washers and enjoying some sunshine. Personally, it was a lot of fun for me as my son, Sargent Matthew Hallam from Missouri Military Academy, was helping all weekend long. On Saturday, there we about 7 different visitors who came to tour the Museum while we were doing our scheduled maintenance.
The new Kemper Museum website was completed over the weekend, and we are announcing that separately. www.KMSmuseum.org
It is important to thank Johnny Kartsonis, Sargent Matthew Hallam (MMA), and Laura Gramlich for all their help over the weekend. The group went to Thespian Hall to watch Elise Gramlich and all the incredible dancers perform the Lion King show. It was nice being back in the Hall as the last time I was there was in 1988.
In closing, there is so much to be proud of as a lot of work and progress has been made. Please go to the events page on the website for updates and activities that are happening. There has never been a better time to get involved with your Alumni Association than today!
